Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reiterated that his administration’s approach to political appointments is driven by merit and capacity, not by recommendations from political godfathers or affiliations.

Makinde made the declaration on Friday, during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Pastor Ademola Temitayo Aderinto, held at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

Speaking after administering the oath of office, the governor acknowledged the significant work ahead in addressing environmental challenges and waste management across the state. He called for the cooperation of residents as his administration works to effect positive change before the end of its tenure.

Makinde emphasized that his government has handled political appointments differently selecting individuals based on what they can offer and the value they bring to governance, rather than on political patronage or endorsements by powerful interests.

Congratulating Aderinto on his confirmation by the Oyo State House of Assembly, Makinde thanked the lawmakers for their timely approval, noting the collaborative spirit between the executive and legislative arms in the state.

In his comments after the ceremony, the commissioner pledged to tackle environmental and waste management issues head-on, urging residents to support government efforts and adopt responsible practices.

The event was attended by senior government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Barr. Bayo Lawal, the Speaker of the State Assembly (represented by the Deputy Speaker), and other top civil servants and aides.
