The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the nomination of Mr. Ademola Temitayo Aderinto as Commissioner designate, following the successful completion of his screening exercise.

The approval came on Thursday, January 22 by the state legislature after the presentation and consideration of the report of the House Committee on Special Duties, which conducted the screening of the nominee during plenary.

Presenting the report, the committee affirmed that Mr. Aderinto met all constitutional and legislative requirements for appointment into the State Executive Council.

The House subsequently adopted the committee’s recommendations and gave its approval for his confirmation as Commissioner.

Lawmakers noted that the exercise reinforces the Assembly’s constitutional responsibility to ensure checks and balances, transparency, and due diligence in governance processes within the state.

Aderinto is the current Senior Special Assistant on Public Works to the executive governor, Seyi Makinde.

He had previously served as a Special Assistant to the governor on Environment and Natural Resources under the first dispensation.

In a related development, the House also received and considered the report of the Joint Committee on Women Affairs and Community Development and Public Petitions, Justice and Judiciary on the need to strengthen the Oyo State Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Response Agency and Referral Centre Law of 2021.

The report followed extensive engagements with relevant government agencies, ministries, and civil society organisations.

It identified key institutional and legal gaps that have continued to limit the effectiveness of the state’s response to sexual and gender-based violence.

Members of the Assembly observed that addressing the highlighted gaps would enhance protection for vulnerable groups and improve access to justice for survivors.
